My First Fail

Or, How Not to Cut Your Baby's Hair

So, lately Peter's hair has been getting super long. It was reaching the "I-look-like-a-16-year-old-boy" phase, so I nagged him about getting it cut. To save some money Peter bought a cheap barber set from the store so I could just cut his hair. Over the weekend I gave my first haircut. It's not what I would call the most even hair style, but it's passable.

Coincidentally, Jude's hair has also gotten super long lately. He had basically a baby mullet in back, and his bangs were so long they were starting to collect food and block his eyes. I decided we should give Jude a little trim as well. So tonight Peter straight-jackets Jude and I just go in with the scissors... Unfortunately, I snipped his bangs way too short and straight. He looked like a member of the 3 Stooges! It was TERRIBLE. After realizing I had no idea what I was doing, Peter took the scissors and tried to fix it.... and gave him a MAJOR bowl cut. It was even more HORRIBLE! I was laughing so hard I couldn't finish the song I was trying to sing to keep Jude calm.

Peter decided it was just time to buzz the whole thing with the clippers. Then all the sudden, I completely lost it. Some little "I just ruined my child's hair forever" voice took over and I started to sob hysterically. I couldn't believe I just destroyed my child's beautiful hair!

After somehow managing calm down a little, I held a screaming Jude while Peter buzzed off the rest as best he could. The results....

Actually, it doesn't look that bad. But he no longer looks like my cute little baby boy! He looks so much older! And, not that this is a bad thing, but I think he looks so much more Hamilton now. He somehow lost his Langlois looks with his locks. Peter keeps telling me it'll grow back. Right now I feel like laughing and crying at the same time. It was a very comical scene, I must say.

Note to self: don't try this at home...

  1. What a funny story! I wish we could of seen each phase of this makeover. I think he looks handsome and yes... more grown up. You did a great job. At least you didn't cut his ear with the scissors. I did a few of those with my first haircuts on Kevin and ears don't grow back (no, his ears are fine, but it could of been bad if Kevin was wiggling a lot)
