Summer Nights (And Days)

Summer!
(Don't quote Olaf....Don't quote Olaf... Jude, please let us watch a new movie!)
Let's talk about this summer, now that it's winding up.

Really, let's talk about how much I LOVE Danville. This place is just amazing. It's your classic suburbia, and I love it! I'm sure my 16 year old self would be appalled, but really, it's what I've always wanted for my family.

I love that Danville is a decent sized town (50,000ish), but is super committed to keeping a small town atmosphere. It's kinda like Agoura and Santa Barbara--no big box stores or a lot of chains (though they are just next door in San Ramon, so it's not a big deal). One of the biggest ways they keep the small-town vibe is in downtown. One of the reasons I fell in love with Danville while house hunting was the downtown. And several times over the summer they close up the streets downtown and have fun, family events.

Like the car show.

And Wild West night.

We really loved attending these and checking out the local scene.

Jude also loves the downtown museum. It's the old Danville train station!

And during the summer they have a model train exhibit!

Plus, an old caboose to play on (and that they've converted to a public restroom; but it plays train sounds and has a little exhibit with a fake conductor in it!)

I love our little neighborhood. I always feel safe, my kids drive their little cars up the greenbelt and down the street with no problems. We usually go out to the greenbelt to play on the grass in the afternoons and enjoy a nice summer breeze.

We also set up our little pool a few times (though I stopped as the CA drought got worse; trying to conserve here). Jude learned how to ride the slide into the pool and "take a shower" by dumping water on his head. Eleanor isn't always excited about the cold water, but usually enjoys herself anyways.

I just love how our backyard has transformed. It's really becoming quite a fun little place.
Our very short-lived teepee. Jude showed little interest in it and it got covered in bird poop.

One day we got bored and just played with ice.

We even built a sandbox!

We regularly hit up the library, where Jude insists on only checking out train books. And Ellie screeches for me to read every single book she pulls off the shelf. It's a small children's library, but it's fun and I'm glad my kids already love to read.

We love Danville parks! They have lots of older playground designs that I remember from my childhood, before everything got overly safety cautious.

We also love the local pool.

And of course, it wouldn't be suburban life without a good old grill in the backyard and Sunday dinners on the patio.

I know the classic "American dream" suburban lifestyle isn't for everyone, and I'm sure once the excitement of our new home wears off I'll start to see all the flaws, but right now, I'm just in love with our new town. I never would have guessed I'd end up here, but it's been one of the best decisions we've made!
