1. Oh, Eleanor. She NEVER sits still. Ever. She cries to be picked up, then immediately starts wiggling! She does this thing where she pushes her feet against your stomach to turn herself around in your arms. Want Ellie to sit on your lap? Nope. You become a jungle gym. She is just CONSTANTLY moving. Honestly, holding her is so exhausting that I have to hand her off to Peter (or Grandparents) frequently or I start to lose it.
2. Listening to Jude talk now is quite funny. He's actually become really articulate! Over the last few weeks, he's made a lot of progress in his speech. However, Jude does say one funny thing that always makes me laugh. Whenever you ask him a question he always answers with "How'd d'about...."He especially utilized this on our last trip with grandparents. "Jude, can I change your diaper?" "How'd d'about grandpa does it?!" "Jude, would you like to go for a walk?" "How'd d'about grandma does it?!"
4. My little Eleanor is not so little anymore! She pulls up on furniture and cruises around. She gets up onto her knees and looks around for things to grab onto all over the place. I've known she's been desperate to get moving for awhile, but now she's really determined. Also, Ellie loves to get in her walker and seriously RUN across the room! Any day now she's gonna walk, and she's only 10 months. But to be honest, I'm really excited for her to walk! She's so difficult to carry with all her wiggling that I never want to do things unless I can strap her in a stroller. I'm looking forward to her walking so I can enjoy the park and such again.
5. Last week we went on a huge road trip to Utah and back with my parents. Jude was already obsessed with grandpa and grandma, but Ellie got in on the action this trip. One day we were at the lake and she was fussing and wouldn't calm down for me...until grandpa came by. Turns out all she wanted was grandpa! I'm convinced it's because he kept feeding her ice cream and root beer floats on the ride up haha. This morning we skyped with my parents and Eleanor seriously freaked out and tried to climb into the screen to get to him. Oh well. More vacation for me?
6. When the movie Frozen came out, I tried to get Jude to watch it a few times, but he was totally uninterested. Sometimes I would listen to the music in the car while we drove around town. Then one day, months later, he suddenly starts singing "For the First Time in Forever," and he knew all the words! I guess it was hiding in his subconscious somewhere? So I asked him, "uh, do you want to watch Frozen?" "YES!" And he LOVED it. We now watch it every day after lunch (it's his "quiet time" movie while Ellie naps). I know it's trendy right now to be all anti-Frozen for being overhyped or whatever, but seriously I think Frozen is amazing. Why? 1. It's 3490723894 times better than Thomas the Train. 2. It keeps Jude sooo occupied. Most other movies he watches for a few minutes, then runs around bugging me, then goes back, then back to bugging me, and on and on. But Frozen? He is MESMERIZED. Jude will just sit and watch it. It's amazing! I can get things done! Even if he wanders away for a minute, as soon as they start singing he races back to the couch. (In this house, when broadway divas sing, you shut up and listen.) Just do NOT sing along, whatever you do. Jude will give you the ultimate shushing.
7. Jude is turning into a little negotiator. Every time I ask him to clean up his toys: "How'd d'about 5 more minutes?!" When we need to go home: "How'd d'about 5 more minutes?!" When it's bed time: "how'd d'about ten more minutes?!"
8. We've reached the stage were we have to buy two of things. Yesterday I went to Target, saw some cute little cups on sale and realized, "wow, BOTH my kids could drink of out these now," so I got two. It was kinda weird and kinda excited for me for some reason. I'm sure the excitement will wear off soon, but I think it's really fun to have them both in a similar stage.
9. When Eleanor was a baby, I taught Jude the "trade method" of playing toys. Because, of course, any toy Ellie had, Jude had to have immediately, so I taught him to just trade her for something different and he could have the toy. On babies, this works fine; they don't know the difference. But now that Ellie's getting older, she's not so easily fooled. (And it doesn't help that Jude always tries to trade her for something total different instead of another car or whatever.) She will start to cry and throw a fit when Jude takes her toy. The future is getting much more complicated...
