This weekend Peter and I enjoyed some local Boise culture and went floating down the Boise river. Seriously, this was probably our favorite thing we have done in Idaho! We bought a cheap raft from Walmart and then floated down the river from Barber Park to Ann Morrison Park in downtown--6 whole miles! It was a total blast! This river ride had small rapids, calm sections, and even a few tiny waterfalls! Its a good thing we had paddles--there were definitely some too shallow parts and if you didn't navigate well and went over the wrong part of the falls you ended up on rocks (we learned this the hard way).
The "two-man" raft was really more of a "one-man and maybe one small child" size, so we had to get really creative with how to fit in (feet over the sides...we never went straight). Then about twenty minutes into the float we went over a rock and ripped two nice holes in the bottom layer of the boat--it still floated just fine but we had to stop several times to bail out water. But after a few miles we figured out the best way to navigate the river (Peter paddles...Linda doesn't). It was also fun to see the local hot spots along the river. There were people jumping off rope swings, water towers, and we even saw a guy river wake surfing off the bridge. Plus people jumping off the bridge trying to scare/splash unsuspecting boats.
In the end our raft turned into more of a floating bathtub, but it was so much fun! The weather was super hot, the river really cool, and we really enjoyed our ride! Only two more weeks left in Boise, but we hope do it again before we leave.
