Birth Story

I wanted to make sure I wrote down the "birth story," so I thought I'd share.

Last Sunday night I started to have a few contractions, but they were small and inconsistent. At 2am they went from zero to a hundred in about 15 minutes. Peter and I wanted to stay home and wait it out as long as possible so we wouldn't get sent home again, but when I started screaming 5 minutes later my Mom (who was staying with us) told us we should definitely go in. We seriously only live like 10 blocks from the hospital but on the way there I still had 4 contractions.

When we got to the hospital they were super fast and got us checked in and immediately started working to get me an epidural. I have never been so overwhelmed or had so many medical things happening to me at one time: one nurse with an IV, another asking questions, another guy sticking a giant needle in my spine, and that terrible back labor! Happily, everything went very fast and by 3:30am we were settled in and ready to go. Peter went to sleep while I kinda closed my eyes; I did not anticipate just how uncomfortable the epidural would be. Even though I couldn't feel pain I was so numb it actually hurt.

Around 8am they told me I was fully dilated and could start pushing. I was lucky it didn't take that long to get to this point, but the pushing was pretty bad. I pushed for two hours, then the doctor came in and discovered the baby's neck was kinked so I wasn't making any progress. She tried to turn him but that freaked him out and I had to go on oxygen. They decided to let us rest for awhile and luckily the baby's head moved to a normal position. Then I pushed for another hour with little progress again. The doctor the decided to use forceps to help pull him out and also made a fairly large incision. Another bit of pushing and at 12:57pm little Jude was finally born!

I'm so excited to be a mom! Peter is the sweetest dad; he was so excited when Jude was born he wouldn't share him with me for a long time. Peter has been amazing at helping me and caring for Jude. I am still pretty immobile from the stitches and haven't had the easiest recovery. My Mom was also amazing and helped us out a lot. I am so grateful for everyone's support and love!
